HPI and transfered plates

I am looking at buying a car which had a personal plate transferred onto it by the owner who transfers the plate each time they change cars.

The HPI report shows a Cat D insurance loss against this number plate, BUT on the previous car the seller owned which was a totally different Manufacturer/Model to the car being sold. I assume as it is a different Make/Model I should not be worried about this?

No problem at all, to be honest I'm not sure why HPI bother showing that info, all it does is worry customers. I would set it to show only information on the VIN in question.

I've got the EXACT same scenario on my Range Rover.

One of the previous owners had a private plate on a vehicle (Land Rover Disco) which got written off.

The plate was retained and re-assigned to my Rangey.

MyCarCheck flags up my Rangey as a possible write off. However if you follow up and call them they will check against the make model etc - which shows my car as HPi clear.
