Road tax refund

In a rare occurance, i might have the chance to claim back some money from the DVLA

Ive got/had 6 months remaining on my car that was taken in by BMW as part exchange at the weekend and im trying to see if i can claim back those remaining months

Ive done a quick google and see that i need to send off the Tax Disc and a form to Swansea and wait for a refund

Problem ive got is that it asks that i send it off with the logbook so they can do both at the same time, but i dont have that as the garage has already sent it off

Has anyone chanced it by just sending the Disc and got lucky?

I've just claimed back 6 months after part-chopping my car at a dealers.

Just sent off the tax disc with a DVLA form (V14 I think) and left logbook with dealer. It was straight forward - didn't have to send logbook off to claim the tax back.

I've claimed before and didn't have to send the log book. Unless you've changed address and not updated it on the log book?

As above, all you need to do is print off the form from the DVLA site as below
http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_...

Then stick your tax disc to the form along with a few written details and put in the post. Couple of weeks later you recieve a cheque to the value of whatevers left.

I do this every year as I trade the tax in over the winter months when the car goes on SORN.

Did the dealer give you the tear off bit from your V5 confirming change of ownership?

They need to sign and date that, then you sign it and send it to DVLA with downloaded form and tax disk.

DVLA get sniffy if you don't tell them why you want a refund!

PS Don't hold your breath - DVLA currently taking about 4 weeks
