EVO magazine and Porsche
Discussion
Just the 6 articles on Porsches this month...
Give it a rest eh guys? I'll be giving my subscription a rest when it elapses.
On a month by month basis I find less and less articles that interest me, to the point where I flicked through this issue and found it utterly boring.
If only there was a competitor.

I know enery second paragraph begins with 'porsche' im so bored of it
i think the way EVO is going its leaving a massive gap in the market for a better mag, only a matter of time i hope!
Sometimes i read a page and scan it over first for the word 'porsche' and actually laugh the number of times its mentioned,i know its sad but its true!

Although I said I would never buy it again, I found myself buying it again because of a few articles. Now I'm going to stop again as the OP pointed out it's up Porsches' ass, and Chris Harris is so indifferent about the cars other than Porsche, and his articles are very badly written.
I should have stopped after they did their car of the year. If they were brave they should have gone for the Lexus LFA, such a radical car, with a great engine, but they gave to a Porsche.

Am a long time reader of EVO, have to agree about Mr Harris. His recent article (& I use the phrase in the loosest possible terms) on that Swedish purveyor of exotica I can never spell nor pronounce, when he was excessievly rude about even having to lower himself to drive this near £1 million hypercar was bordering on the ridiculous.
Mr Harris, if you have become too accustomed &/or bored to driving these 200mph cars which the vast majority of your readers will never drive, let alone own, then have the common decency to resign your post & let someone else earn a living. Am sure there are only several million people who would like to earn a living in your chosen occupation........

I'm not normally too critical of evo, as I do think it's a cracking mag, but I do agree with the above view regarding Harris' drive of the Koenigsegg. I can understand a small piece at the beginning making his point about not getting it, but there was basically no review of the car at all. If he doesn't want to drive it, I will!!
I have been reading EVO since issue 1 and starting to get bored of it too. Like the OP said the problem is there is not much of an alternative. CAR and Top Gear are not good enough and Autocar is worth a read through in the shop but thats it. Also is there a market for a EVO competitor much as we might want one?
Also if anyone would like to lend me a 911 GT3 RS to drive I would be grateful as I would love to know if they are really as good as EVO say.

I'll be the first to say that I'm still very much a happy Evo reader.
Perhaps the relatively large amount of Porsche coverage is becasue Porsche are the brand that has the most 'synergy' with Evo magazine, in that they are affordable supercars and the real emphasis on their product is 'driving pleasure'.
They also have a very large range, when all of the different variants of model are included (compared to any of their competitors), hence plenty of scope for features/articles.

I'm not a great Porsche fan but I still think Evo is a cracking read and they have had BMW/Ferrari and Mclaren heavy editions recently.
I do understand what you guys are saying as everything seems to be compared to the 997 GT3 but as it seems to be the benchmark for "evo" cars at the moment then surely that's what every new car needs to be compared against.

But 99 of people whi buy 100k plus cars don't buy them for the steering feel, or how fast it will lap Bedford. It's more about noise, stlying, how it makes feel, etc, etc, of which porche falls well short of most other cars IMO.
They are also to fond of Renault as well. You'd of thoight a Clio 200 was a rocket ship, well there no faster than any other decent hot hatch.

I am a very happy EVO reader, and have been for the past 2 yrs (subscription) I love Porsche's so have no issues with the content, I am not too wild on the Trott impact on this particular edition, the various buying guides etc appearing in the back, smell a bit of the MaxPower parts/upgrades pages of 10 yrs ago.
Overall, I still like it a lot and as already said, dont see a competitor of the same calibre, TG magazine is possibly the worst offender of them all, total cr@p.

Agree totally. Evo has maintained its improvement following the return of Meaden and Harris.
