Doesn't make all that much difference, it's all done by computer anyway. Try not to let it do the "automatic creep" because it's actually just slipping the clutches.

Do what you would do were it a manual. Personally, I stick it in neutral as all it requires is a gentle nudge upwards of the gear lever - not much effort at all!
Plus there's stuff of it can warp brakes. I have a vague idea of how it does this, but perhaps someone wiser than I can fully explain this.

I'd assume the reason is if it's in D and being held on the brake, if the brakes are hot then you'll be causing a localised hot spot by not allowing them to cool/holding the hot pads against them. This can't be good for the discs or the compound of the pads.

Since getting an automatic (my first) I always pop it into 'park' at lights to avoid pissing off the drivers behind with my high level brake light.

Depends how long you're keeping it. If you plan to sell it at 3 years when the warranty is up then do whatever you want!

God I'd never leave my car in D at the lights. I'd be pining against the poor clutch/torque converter/whateverDSGshave.

It has a clutch rather than a torque converter so leaving it in 'D' and holding the brake would be the same as pushing the clutch in with an ordinary manual.

I'd rather be pissed off by brake lights than left thinking you're going to back into me as you slide the lever forward into P

Seriously, what?! What do you think my right foot is doing when I'm changing gear Einstein?
