Best small car for entertainment

Hi guys,

Im looking for a car thats, say 10+ years old, i want to spend a maximum of a grand but i want a fun car to drive. something that can do a 3 point turn in 1! haha no i know I'm punching above my weight, but what are the most fun small cars for -£1000

Both my Cinquecento Sporting and 205 were jolly good fun and cost about half that.

Saxo VTR's are good fun despote their "image" they arn't half bad.

@twazzock read my mind! when i first started looking i was like "has to be a seicento sporting, they're fun to watch on the road so they must be a right laugh on the road

@canadianscott yeah thats well and truly a case of 'that guy' haha like the thinking though

@wackojacko yeah i had a quick scan at the VTRs but its not far off impossible to find one that isn't raped with a spoiler and halfords bodykit haha!

My Vtr has been great fun but dont buy one thats been modified or abused if you can help it.

They are very good fun. Far from quick and you have to rev the nuts off them, but they've got a bit of zing when you do. Corner with any enthusiasm and it feels like you'll fall over (even my lowered one rolled like mad) which is hilarious at first but it wore off after a while for me. The 205 was better in every way to be honest; the previous owner had modified and refreshed a lot of the suspension so it handled rather nicely; wonderfully eager 1360cc engine and still pretty light.

You might even be able to get a half-decent GTi for a grand. I've been having a gander lately and there seem to be a few good ones at that price but many will have knackered suspension (rear beam in particular).

@sparkythecat defo worth a shout! but good ones at sub-1G are hard to come across, but to be honest, i'd imagine even the puma sheds are pretty decent! but i love the video, brought back memories off tiff on TG, changing gear mid-slide haha love it!

@twazzock fair play fair play, i'd love a GTI, always wanted one, but i'd imagine any GTI for under a G would be a shed of the year contender!

My other half had 1 litre Toyota Yaris for a couple of years.

It was surprisingly good fun, cheap, and apart from oil/filters and brake pads/discs I never had to repair a single thing on it!
Good car.

Our Suzuki Cappocino, cost £800 2 years, is quite scruffy but solid ... But immense fun. Passed MOT again last week !

Mx5 ? One for every budget it appears.

Obviously none of this applicable if you need 4 seats !

Yet It was named the second best handeling car of all time on Top Gear (The 106 GTI was anyway which is the same car) and has countless good review by EVO and others.

I'd point you towards a mk1 clio 16v like mine some of the better examples are going for what your budget is, could possibly stretch to a williams as well

If entertainment is key rather than practicality I'd be going for a sports car (MX5, MR2 etc) over a shopping trolley every time.
