MOT fail but too good to scrap - options?

I recently moved country, leaving behind a car in the UK. Sadly the car recently failed it's MOT with corrosion issues, requiring some welding at a seatbelt mounting point and a rear suspension mounting point. Quote for this was about £600. Car is probably worth £800 max (with an MOT)... (old polo). This has been a bit of a kick in the teeth alonside the expensive and upheaval or emigrating... but there you go.

What are the options with a car that seems too good to scrap but has no MOT? Is it usually possible to sell MOT failiures? This is pretty much my first car so I have no experience of this...

E-bay and include a scn of the fail ticket as one of the pictures

Post a few photo's on the thread and offer it to pistonheads first. You'd gat a fair price and know the car will either go to a fellow enfusiast or someone that can fix it cheaper.

I'm a welder by trade and own a Rover so I'm used to fixing stuff.

He'll easily get a few hundred quid on eBay. It's more hassle but he'll get much more than scrap value.

£600 is a huge amount of welding maybe another quote is what you need from someone who does not mind welding !

I agree rallycross, but the car is in the UK and I am somewhere else! Our friendly MOT station/garage up north would have done a great job for us but I had to leave the car in the car of my parents in the UK who used a local garage on the recommendation of a friend - they said their old car always got through fine with no work...

only after the MOT fail did I find out what this 'old car' was... an MX5! basically bulletproof as I understand it! (save for the rust issues).

rearranging an MOT and finding another garage from a different country is going to be a little inconvenient.

anyway, given the hassle sounds like ebay for spares/repairs is the best option!
