One of the most expensive places to buy cars - so glad I don't live there!

Quite shocking how much they have to pay, and it's quite normal for people in average jobs to borrow £100k to buy a basic BMW.

Oh, and I heard that when a car reaches 10 years old it has to be scrapped, unless you pay a huge amount of cash (tens of thousands) to get a special certificate for it.

I know there are some horrific taxes in Singapore on new cars, but the simple exchange rate doesn't tell the whole story.

A friend has been looking at jobs around the world, and and we decided the best measure of whether he would be better off in one place or another was the BigMac per month test.

Monthly wage after all taxes paid divided by price including taxes of a regular BigMac Meal. Not that we would ever spend a months wages on BigMac Meals, but it is a useful comparison.

I'm sure their wages aren't high enough to offset the tax on the cars, but they are probably higher anyway...

That is just the start. You need to then buy a COE- Certificate Of Entitlement which is $.000s and yearly tax is based on engine size too....

Anything Western is mega expensive. 90% of the cars you see driving round there are toyotas and hyundai etc. Fantastic place to visit / live though. If any of you get the chance to go there, take it Just make sure you take plenty of spending money its a tad expensive!!

£74.5k for a pretty basic MINI.

2010 model Lotus Elise 1.6 is $155,800 and an SC is $213,800- so I'm guessing a 111R is about $185k. I'm glad I don't live there!
