What is it with 4-axle rigid tipper-lorry drivers?

Is it just me, or are they currently the most aggressive drivers on the road? And it doesn't seem to matter whether they're taking up the full width of a country lane or barrelling through city streets at 40 mph. No other type of lorry seems, as a class, to demonstrate the same behaviour, so what's going on? Is driving one of these the lorry equivalent of saying "I've got a small knob, so I'm going to act like one?"
I'm with you 100% - usually driven by utter maniacs.
My mates brother drives one and he is - as I suspect very many are - paid by the load. He drives one from a quarry to the works (be it road or whatever) and insists that by driving as fast as possible he can manage an extra load a day; I don't think that this is possible, but even if it is it's idiotic.
I have actually had a fully laden one pass me on a downhill in a 30mph residential area doing what I'd estimate to be about 60mph, and in the same place but going uphill the other way had them honking, flashing and trying to overtake on many occasions. Utter nutters.

A mate of mine drives a tipper as described. From the quarry to the site, they used to get paid per load, with rates based on distance. Recently, the company switched to paying them based on fuel economy, every mpg over a given value (6 i think) goes towards their bonus.
All the drivers are in better health and have less sick days through stress. The company says it has the same wage bill as ever, but a smaller fuel bill and they still get the same number of loads in per month, since the drivers are at work more often.
I think its somewhat silly to pay by the load currently.
