Toyota FT86 - do you prefer Production or Concept?

Which style do you prefer? - the production intent (black) version or the original concept version (red) ?

I prefer the front and back of the original concept, but the side view of the new one.

I love the side and rear (particularly those haunches)of the production version, but like the simplicity of the original, primarily the front end without those DRLs

But I am just happy that it is being built (allegedly!)

The bonnet height had to be raised for clearance but what's the point of the other styling changes? Concept cars are usually toned down to become road cars not the other way.

None of the visual changes look to have been made for type approval reasons though, as is usually the case when things transition from concept to road car - the bonnet line hasn't been raised much, the wheels are roughly the same size, the lights are similar size and position,...

In fact if you showed me those two pictures and told me one was a concept and the other the road version, I think I'd put them the other way around.

Totally agree, no way legislation drove the bigger rear haunches, the rear wing, the front wing vent etc.

although admitedly the aerodynamics could have something to do with it which will lower CO2 etc etc

Were they? IIRC the original figures were to be something like sub 1000kg, and approx 200bhp. It's supposed to be the 'new AE86', which sold at approx 950kg and 120bhp, and had a reputation for being a 'driver's car'.

200bhp is plenty of power for a car which is designed to be fun to drive; not every car has to be a firebreathing 500bhp monster.

This is just about the exterior style as that is the only thing confirmed (ish) and released

None, I'd rather they brought back the AE86! This new one sounds like a great idea in concept, but in reality it looks very safe and over-tyred. They look as though they have missed a trick to make a great new RWD coupe.

Subaru's version was rumoured to be 260bhp but that seems to have been shelved.

To the OP, sorry for topic drift. Aesthetically I also prefer the concept as the production one is starting to look a bit blingy.

Production model for me, it just seems edgier, more aggresive. I just hope they decide to put an engine in that will match the looks.
