If you go mad on the options on any car you can get the price to be stupid. Sensibly specified they are more around 37.5k (2.2 190 prestige 4wd) which seems pretty reasonable to me to be honest a decent specification golf/focus is around 20k nowadays

Agree to a point, but ticking boxes normally gets you a bit of poke or a few more cylinders!

You can get a golf diesel to around 40k with the options if you try hard I think or a tiny audi a1 to over 30k imagine an A3 could be worse... Really any premium brand can be specified to a rather stupid price if you go mad with the options imo

I have an evoque on order and to be homest i think my spec is fine, its 29.2k which i think is decent value. You can spend silly money on them though.

I'd rather go to Landrovers other end of the range and spend 50K on a 4 cyl diesel offroader

You could have some fun with a 50K defender

150hp diesel 4x4 manual pure which i already think has a decent spec, 5 door, leather, cruise, heated front seats, dual zone climate, fancy stereo, usual LR driver aids.

options -auto wipers/lights,and an optional spare wheel.

I am not one who is fussed on sat nav etc etc etc and options i will never use.

With respect, that's a stupid comment as it depends which boxes you tick. If you tick "engine" then yes, but if you tick "leather/nav/wheels/etc" then of course it won't!

Had a look at these but the engine put me off - surely they will pop a real engine in at some stage soon?

Perhaps the 6 from the Jag XF?

That might be worth £50k but not for the 4 pot IMO

I do not quite understand this link where an expensive car must have a large powerful engine. To many people speed and power are not important, having a lot of luxury is. Many do not want to be spending a fortune on fuel, even if they can afford it. It is not like this car has been designed to be a tow car and mug plugger where some real grunt is needed and neither is it trying to muscle in where the RR sport is sitting.
For taking the kids to school in Surrey this car will have more than enough poke

Do you have a link - I've never heard of 2WD Series II's being sold to the public. The only 2WD LR's I'm familiar with are the special batch of Series I's produced for the RAF with FUV plates on. If they were I'd love to know!

I think most of the original Freelanders are 2wd now due to the transfer box giving up the ghost...
