Driving style incompatible with car.

We've had the "performance car driven slowly", and "soft tops with the roof up" threads.

I'd like to propose one the other way up.

I just heard someone redlining an engine before snap changing into third. Then they braked hard for a junction before pulling away with a big power on wheelspin.

The car?

Vauxhall Zaffera.

Seen any other "trying too hard for the type of car" examples?

I always see Zafiras driven like loons. And Priuses come to that. You've got two categories of people who drive crap cars quickly.

1.) the ex Subaru/Evo/Hot hatch owner whose missus has forced him to buy a people carrier

2.) The ex subaru/evo/hot hatch owner whose company car has to be below so many grams of CO2.

Yep, I've seen plenty of them with the VXR singing its praises, in the hope they'll convince themselves too.

I always think, possibly unfairly, that blokes driving family people carriers have given up.

Me? I drive a Mondeo estate that can haul the family, my toys and handle reasonably, which is about 100 times more 'petrolhead' than a Zafira. Maybe.



And I ride a bike.

I've driven our Polo that way, just for fun. I can't get the wheels to spin in the dry though.

i have an audi a2 but a r1 in the garage.......i haven't given up, just think the cars that are fast enough to replace my bike are out of my reach (not that i'd ever replace it anyway)

I've learned to adjust my driving style when I swap from my MX5 to the OHs Mito. It's very FWD. Slow in fast out...

You need to do it with a bit of lock on, just spin up the inside wheel.

I think you got there just in time for the final shunt at which time the car had stalled and by pure luck rolled into the parking space. I realy can't believe you saw what you think you saw, that is just too far fetched.

...actually it was me, so I can't say that I saw it really, so perhaps I imagined that too.

Yeah, I don't get this having-a-family-must-have-a-Zafira thing. Maybe with three kids or more you need a people carrier. I've only one child, but we've managed with my mid-sized saloon, which is still fun to drive and doesn't make me look like Angry DadTM wheel-spinning some MPV everywhere. No problems fitting everything required, even for holiday trips. If we add a dog to the family, then an estate will be needed, but that's as far as I'm willing to compromise.

Actually, I think we'd have been fine with a 996 for a daily; if only I could have swung one of those with the other half as a sensible first car.

I saw an older Rolls-Royce get some wheelspin away from the lights (I don't think it was intended), but that seemed quite out-of character.

I always get amused when I see kids driving Kia Picantos and Daewoo Matizs at 11/10ths, surely if you want to give a car a thrashing (like a 17 year old does) then you'd get something slightly more planted in the corners, like a Golf or an original Mini?

I suppose it's slightly out of character for my 120d with BMW's EfficientSomething package being exercised round the corners. Couldn't resist getting the tail out on the way home today. (wide empty roundabout officer, well within the speed limit and familiarising myself with the cars capabilities)
