Another numberplate question!

I've seen a plate up at the next DVLA auction... Very nice "2 number 3 letter" with my initials. I think it would be worth a punt at the reserve price or near.

How much over reserve do they tend to go? I've seen "guide prices" on house auctions which are vastly under-reported and wondered if plates are the same!

Sometimes they don't even sell. Just depends on the interest on the day.

It all depends on what the number is :

The Irish singer , Val Doonican had VD 1 on his Rolls Royce , I'm not at all sure how much that one would go for on the open market ?

Yes, I can see that.

The reserve is £1900, which I would have to scrape the barrel to find, but think it would be worth it in the long term... If it doesn't sell at auction might they be amenable to an approach afterwards?

They will NEVER sell at under the reserve. If it doesn't sell then they will be offered first come first served at the reserve price.
Don't forget that at £1,900 it will be subject to vat, buyers premium, vat on the buyers premium and also the transfer fee.

I got one last auction at 1900 reserve. Think it ended up costing around 2550 after fees etc.

Ah, good call... Might be an overly expensive purchase even at reserve then!

You need to scrape a bit more then as aution fees and VAt add about 25% to the bill
