Has it sold out already, or is this person on drugs?

They were on a very limited production run.

I was quite keen on the 1m. I am due to get a new car next month. My biggest beef was the price, £40k, by the time you spec'd it up £43k odd. I start looking through the nearly new ads and finding lots of alternatives.

But £50k. Ha, if anyone spends that on a 1m they need some medication. ;D

Wiki seem to think that they are still producing them.

"BMW was originally going to release the E82 1M Coupe as a limited edition model of approximately 2700 units. Due to positive response, the company lifted the cap and will produce as many E82 1M Coupes as they can until production ends in Spring of 2012."

Would make sense to keep producing them if there is still a huge demand after all 2700 units have been sold. Seem like a fantastic car.

The Wiki entry is wrong. Only 450 coming to the UK, all are now sold. You might find a few dealer-spec builds still available though, but you can't order and spec one yourself.

As for the price... I bumped into Steve Sutcliffe the other day in his long-term 1M and he said it was fantastic, better than the M3 - which is a good £10k more to buy new. Think of it as a bargain M3-slayer, not as a jumped-up shopping trolley.

True, I like them alot.

But as a cash buyer, not a finance person or a company car buyer. I always look at what my money buys me.

And for that reason M 1 Coupe comes into the category of one i want to pick in the next few years in the second hand ads..

Saw one, just, and a bit of a let down in the flesh.

Not quite as bad as the RS3, with it's woeful painted alloys.

Why buy degrees of hairdressing when you can get a GTR for the same money?

Ha. That is what I am thinking now. My best mate has the first GT-R tuned to 650. Its crazy, almost too fast. I thought about the m1 because I thought fun without loosing my license.

But saw a MY11 for £67k, job done. biggrin

But the comparison to the GTR will continue as long as Germany continues to produce comedy priced high performance ( parts bin ) variants of it's cheaper models.

Why?

When I try to think of other similarly priced front engined, RWD, powerful, compact cars built by a company that knows a thing or two about motorsport, chassis development and build quailty <and breathe>, I struggle to think of that many alternatives.

that would point more to the market being badly catered for though, rather than proving this car was worth the 50k.

If it's sold out, then by definition it's not overpriced. In fact one could argue that it's proof that it's underpriced.

Yeah, but I think the point was that while the list of £40k-ish isn't too bad, this guy selling one for £50k is maybe pushing his luck a bit relative to that!

I do agree that BMW could have sold them for £50k, though, had the M3 never existed or been ten grand more.

I suspect they did sell most of them for over 50k. BMW options are not renowned for being cheap.

All are sold for sure.

I have my name on the list for the first they can get their hands on but it could be a long wait.
