Alfa GTV CUP. Cant see them getting any cheaper and sure to be a future classic. 7k would get you a minter and only 500 made. 230bhp from THAT engine, 4 seats, usable boot, comfortable enough, classic interior and reliable if the maintenance isnt skimped on

Example from classifieds:

Nice Cup. Although they need constant looking after and imo the running costs are too high for the type of car it is. Engine is great though!Example from classifieds:

I'm sure my urS6 is now appreciating, now there's so few left.
Probably because it hit rock bottom in value, not because it didn't devalue.
I think early an early Elise is in the same boat.
From new your best bet is a very limited edition car. Or small niche manufactures, like Morgan.
Two of my cars in my post. How indulgent!
ETA - That Alfa is stunning.

My thoughts are that generally the type of car that won't lose money in age depreciation will either do so through adding mileage as a daily driver or will cost money in running.

Exactly that, based on the "No free lunches" rationale.

Porsche 928s are as cheap as they will ever be.

Notoriously inexpensive vehicles to run, see also BMW 850CSi.

They are getting to that age (7-10yrs old) where some electrical components etc will be reaching the end of their life, but a well cared for example should actually be pretty solid and reliable. It would actually be hard to find a CUP that hasnt been well looked after. Belt changes on the Busso V6 are not that frequent and they are a strong reliable engine - maybe some ancillary things such as MAFs can cause hiccups, but not the end of the world.
They are very well built and either galvanised or made from plastic composite so should never rust. For a FWD car they also handle fantastically, partly due to the passive rear steer.
Lovely, lovely vehicles IMO and whilst theyll cost more to run than a shopping trolley I dont think they are ruinous. I also think in 5-10yrs time they will be worth 15-20k or more.
Well I loved mine and would probably have another. However, I'd only buy one that had new suspension bushes, new shocks and springs, radiator, clutch, AC compressor, Q2 Diff, belts done, etc, etc........my point being that they do cost a lot to run for what they are. It's normally only niggly stuff but it soon adds up. GTVs do get under your skin though and THAT engine is fantastic. The rest of the car I found a bit of a let down in the end. Specifically the handling which whilst being safe and predictable ultimately frustrates as the car tends to understeer when pushing on and the more you live with it, the more it annoys. Shame really, just imagine if it was rear wheel drive They are very well built and either galvanised or made from plastic composite so should never rust. But would I have another one? Even with all their flaws I think I would
