Where to sell a Fiat X1/9

My neighbour has a Fiat X1/9 which is in near-concours condition and he has asked me to help him sell it on Ebay. Now I think this is a bad idea, when I check completed listings on Ebay X1/9's go for between £500 and £1500.

There is an X1/9 owners club, but it looks like you have to be a paid-up member before you can post on the forum. ( http://www.x1-9ownersclub.org.uk/index.php )

So, where would be the best place to advertise this car, as it is a classic[1] in near perfect condition.

[1] if you are into 80's Fiats, and let's face it, not many people are.

I'd love a tidy X1/9 just for fun, I really wanted one when I was younger and they were new, baby Ferrari and all that.

But I've got no where to put it and I know I'd never really use it.

Looks like it should be worth at least £4,000.

Ebay auction would probably do the trick too if you write a good ad.

OK I'll try that. I know very little outside of Scoobynet and Pistonheads. 1980's Fiats are not really my area of expertise.

I've been looking for one for some time (ideally looking for a 1300, but you're not too far from me if you're North Somerset ).

I've been mainly looking on PistonHeads, ebay, the X1/9 owners club website, classiccarsforsale.co.uk, carandclassic.co.uk and good old AutoTrader.

I've almost given up, though, after a year of viewing cars that are described as being in 'excellent rust free condition' but turn out to be bodged together with filler and chickenst welding with a shiny paint job over the top.

If it is as good as you say then its worth probably three grand or so, nothing classic is cheap, if its any good, Fiat 500's are three for a ropey one, get it on the marque specific forums and if on Ebay, set a reserve.

My dad had an X1/9 in the early 90's and loved it. He has an anniversary coming up aswell.

Actually it will stay as a nice thought as we can't fit another car on the drive. For a good one aswell (like you describe) it should be a minimum of £2500.

Yep, lovely, I think to the right person it is possibly worth four grand as mentioned as Iit doesnt look like finding a better one would be easy and it isnt that much money in the scheme of things, given what people spend on tedious modern stuff without batting an eyelid.

It has 76K miles, 1988 model 1500cc, 2 owners - so what would that be worth?. No rust, but it needs an MOT before it gets advertised properly.

i used to own one of these in 1989 the thing was never out of the garage, when i did have it on the road it was great fun but that was a very rare moment.

4 years in hiding probably need s a good recommission first, fluids, tyres, hoses etc will all have suffered, petrol pumps/tanks/carbs will need draining and fresh stuff in, stuff that "worked" when you put it away might now need some serious waking up. It looks lovely but there may hide some serious bills to get it back and reliable(as any fiat of that era ever was ) )

TBH the best place for classics in Uk is probably Practical Classics or Classic Car weekly but expect questions about recomissioning it if you mention its been in hiding.

My X-1/9 was in very good condition and sold for £3000 on eBay if your neighbours is concourse then buy it off him for £2500-£2000 and put it on carandclassic for £4995.

That's the gran finale special edition. In that condition I would expect it to fetch a decent wedge. 500 to 1500 would be wayyy too conservative.
