Just travelled from Liverpool to Oldham (during peak traffic!) to view a 53 Jaguar XJ, 83,000 on the clock in red. Overall really good condition. Listed at £5,995.

Main issues were all 4 alloys suffeed from fairly bad bubbling, so needed a refurb. Also a good size chip on the windscreen had been filled, but about 5cm away from this, there was a small crack which had not.

So taking this in to consideration, i felt i had every right to try and knock a bit off.

HOWEVER

Not only did he refuse to budge on the list price, he also said a £50 admin charge would apply, so really, it was £6,045.

Now really £50 is nothing, but the fact this was not advertised on their advert, coupled with the 2 issues, 1 of which could be serious in time to come) i walked away, and he didn't even seem bothered!.

My search continues.

I would of taken it for a test drive and tested the suspension to turn that crack into the size of the Mersey! 50 quid "admin" my arse! sounds like you got off lightly to be honest mate.

Blessing in disguise i feel mate.

I do however feel that withing 100 miles of me, an XJ 2003> will prove difficult to come by. Hope one pops up before the weekend!

I wouldn't have bought it at £5995 anyway, the wheels were about £200 to have sand blasted, painted etc. And it really needed a new windscreen tbh, which would be what, £1000?

I read that the S type, even facelift ones, are no good.

This has 56,000 miles, 3.0 V6 sport. Smidge under £6000.

Worth looking at? FSH ..

Maybe £250 for the wheels, and £50/70 insurance excess for the windscreen - and certainly not £1000 if paid for yourself...

People selling stuff lying about it, not new I am afraid.

This sales charge admin fee thing seems to be creeping into more and more things though.. It's a policy of mine not to purchase from anyone who does this..
