Have got my supercharged Mx5 up for sale (http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=78075&st=0&gopid=959300&#entry959300) and have been offered a Mazda rx7 twin turbo as a p/x deal.

Now i have always wanted one (since old gran truism days!) but was wondering if anyone had any experience of them who could share the things I need to look out for. The car has had an engine rebuild just 4k miles ago, with £5k recipts to back it up. I'm not going in 100% nieve, I know how unreliable these can be. But was wondering if anyone could back up the internet stories that go around much like the rx8 (I have 2 friends whove had these with no problems). Ive heard the mpg is terrible, which I can put up with. But imagine will be a very tricky thing to sell on in the future?

Cheers, Euan

P.S someone please buy the Mx5 so to talk me out of the stupid idea of an rx7!! Lol

Ah, I see. A thinly veiled 'buy my car' thread.

I think that's 'transparently veiled' smile

Get the RX7 compression tested if you're thinking of going for it.

To be honest, FDs are pretty popular, so if you've a good one, I don't suppose it would be that hard to sell.

Probably not as easy as a MX5, but what is?

FDs are great cars but most have been modded and a savvy buyer will want to know what mods, by who and when. If you've taken it in p/ex and then sell soon after that may put a few people off along the lines of "what's wrong with it?".

So as above:-
- get the compression checked by an RX specialist
- go through all the mods and maintenance bills carefully
- check it doesn't look TOO Max-Power...
- check for rust - I think they were galvanised, but mid-90s cars are now at the point where you will see some tin-worm

(I'm not an expert, but I believe 90% of the problems are engine-related, although if it's a high-miler you'll have the usual looming repairs there too)
