Just wondering if anyone else car purchases are decided by the tax rules.

Just in the process of looking for a Barge at the moment for £2-3k. And I really begrudge paying near as £500 to tax a car, so making sure to only look at older models.

This got me thinking in the next few years all these cars (pre-03/2001) are going to be past it, so will we then start seeing a change in purchasing habits away from big barges into smaller "Eco"cough S**t cars.

Its only the cars registered post 23rd March 2006 that pay the full wack £450 and above or whatever it is... Thats where you'll see the drop off in second hand prices I think...

I bought my current 306 HDI on the basis that it qualified for £125 tax. Had it been a week older it would have cost £205.

Theres a tool on the DVLA website that does it for you.

http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

URL is huge, so click on "Vehicle enquiry" then "next" and knock yourself out.
