Woman refuses to reverse, abandons car!
Discussion
I can't believe this just happened, even more so I can't believe my PC just crashed and I have write it all again.
Basically, narrow country lane I've commuted down for 9 years so know very well, I come nose to nose with woman in MINI who refuses to reverse, despite it being clearly easier for her, doubly so because I soon have another car (Peugeot) behind me. Briefly, we'd have to reverse 100 yards round a scarily narrow bend to the nearest passing place, she'd have to reverse 50 yards in a dead staright line to a layby clearly visible behind her.
After a few moments I go and explain situation to Peugeot man who agrees entirely with me that she should reverse, and adds "how did I know you were going to say it was a woman?"
After a few more minutes of me smilling sweetly at MINI woman and her shaking her head back I go to her window, explain that she really is going to have to reverse. She replies that she lives on this lane and that she's always having to reverse (I cut in "as do I" to the reversing bit) and since "we" (whoever she's referring to as "we") put some manky old 1/2 housebricks in a muddy ditch no one uses as a passing place just round the blind bend, we both only need to reverse to there.
After I go and explain this to Peugeot man, who asks me whether we pay as much road tax and fuel tax as her, I return to my van. After a few more minutes a car arrives behind her but waits at the layby, I trot down and explain at which point this chap grins and says he'll leave us to it. As I pass MINI woman's car she reiterates that she's sick of reversing on her lane. I reply that if she can't cope with single track lanes she should consider moving house. This appears to upset her, as after a few minutes she begins fiddling with her keys and I sense victory, but no...
She gets out, locks her car and walks off back down the lane. After a brief chat with Peugeot man, we decide this is a battle we aren't going to win, and elect to reverse, but give her a minute or two to get home first
.
As I leave I see another car arrive from behind the now abandoned MINI and we have to make another car behind us reverse.
I appreciate that this sound made up, but this - word for word - just happened to me. For emphasis - as I'm sure I will be told otherwise - it was clearly her job to reverse. Furthermore, I am generally the first to give up in situations like this, and would have done so immediately if there wasn't another chap behind who when consulted agreed that we were 100% in the right.

I'd have reversed for her, it doesn't take too much to be a gentleman in such situations.
With someone behind me? And no one behind her? With a passing place visible behind her and a nasty bend for us to both reverse round?
She was being stubborn and I suspect a little NIMBY-ish and snobbish, and just for once I thought I'd stand my ground.
Once again, I emphasis that I am normally the one to reverse, even when it's clearly not my place to.
It's happened to me too. I was driving down a road which was only just a little too narrow for centre lines. I came across an artic stopped in the road. I was there a minute, and then got out to see what was going on. In front of the artic was, predictably, a lady, in a Focus. No vehicles behind her at all for 200 yards back down an arrow straight road to a lovely big pull in place, where a coach was waiting for the lady to reverse (there was room for her too).
She was gesticulating at the driver (who was from eastern europe but that's not important) and saying "he's just going to have to reverse".
the queue steadily got longer over the next ten minutes until someone from one of the cars behind me reversed the woman's car to the pull in spot for her. Mental.

I may be misinterpreting, but that's how I read it.

This particular lane is used by both Mrstheboy and I to commute, and we always have some story to tell in the evening. As she drives an MX5 she gets bullied out of the way a lot.
Because it's quite a quiet lane, you tend to see the same cars a lot and get to know their driving styles. There's a silver Puma driven by a woman we have christened "Helmet" on account of her hair that we both give a wide berth to, as she goes like the clappers, and really can't - rather than won't - reverse.

One of my Exs friends turned her engine off & started reading a book when a bloke refused to reverse for her, he finally realised he'd lost & reversed, he was very red in the face & angry when she passed him waving & smiling apparently. She is a large, opinionated Welsh lass, I wouldn't mess with her!

lol, on a serious note i would have called the police to report an abandoned car and get it towed away,
I think this is the best solutionWaiting to see what I find in the morning.

It's not that she's not able, she just didn't want to.
What she said and what the truth is, are not necessarily the same. It's not that she's not able, she just didn't want to.
I had a situation in my road where an X3 had to reverse 20 yeards, or I had to reverse about 60. There was hesitation from the X3 driver before moving. I wish I had done the reversing. It must have taken about 3 mins for her to do it.

Sadly, this sort of thing is probably what the woman was hoping for. Some emasculated boob turning up and bending over for her, so she can have her own way. Growing and pair and telling her shift the car would be more appropriate. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
