Buying a car but waiting for orginal plates - advice please!

Just after some advice please.

Just put a deposit down last week on a mini. The car currently has a private number plate on which they are transferring to their new car. We haven't been able to collect the car as they haven't been able to get docs back from DVLA with original number plate for the mini but should be any day now we hope.
But I am just wondering, will I, new owner of the mini, need to send of tax disc, MOT certf. etc to get number plate changed on these documents or does this all happen when they send the log book to DVLA?

Owner says they will put on new plates for me which is one less thing to do.

Does any one know how long DVLA take to send back new documents?

DVLA will supply an new tax disk with the 'new' number for the Mini, same with the V5 and MOT, however the V5 normally arrives after the tax disk.
