Just bought a car from an auction advice needed
Discussion
I just bought a car from an auction, once i drove off i noticed the gearbox would not change gear, i bought the cars sold as seen so i cannot get my money back from them,
i was going to take it to we buy any car but i reckon it will fail the inspection and i will just have wasted my time. any suggestions? what are my options?

yes it has an f on the instrument panel
You'll need to have the fault code read to see what, if any, error the problem is throwing. My mother used to have an A-class and had the same problem - she had to have the PCB on the gearbox replaced. It was under warranty though.
This site is quite useful about the A-class: http://www.aclassinfo.co.uk/mypage.1.htm

If it's in limp-home mode it could be as simple as a faulty MAF, or a missing signal from the gearbox. You might try disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes or so, to see if the problem clears temporarily.
