Electric windows are not a luxury

I've decided i dislike electric windows. My arms are not withered little straws I have the strength to wind a handle to make the window go up and down.

So what is the advantage to me of having a little button.

With manual windows i don't have to switch the ignition back on to wind the window up, i don't have to go hunting for the key to switch the ignition on, i don't have to get a set of jump leads onto a dead car to open the window so i can operate the steering, manual windows don't randomly open themselves, manual windows don't blow a fuse and sulk inside the door.

I'm sure I've heard somewhere that electic windows weigh less than manual ones. I think the Elise Exige can only come with electric windows for this reason

Drive to car park ticket machine, push button, window drops all the way down as you get closer to the machine. Collect ticket, push button, window goes back up as you drive through the now open barrier to find a space. Nice and easy.

You can open the passenger windows too. I quite like having all the windows down.

If you're in a sedan, it's more than just one window. Do you want to do the rest of the windows by hand?

You can't open the windows on the opposite side of the car if they are not electric (or at least it's very unlikely to be safe).

Try opening a window whilst driving (other than the drivers window).

Anyway, it's a convenience, something to make life easier/pleasant.

If it is a "luxury" then so is everything apart from the pedals, gearstick, steering wheel, handbrake, horn, lights and indicators.

So forget heaters, demisting windows, clever intermittent/multiple speed wipers (you only need a lever to move them), self cancelling indicators, stereo, any dials other than speedo, adjustable seats etc. etc.

Sounds more like you have crap cars that have their windows breaking, battery dying etc.

In all the cars I have, and various problems, I have NEVER had problems with electric windows. The tech is quite simple and reliable.

Some people don't have muscles in their arms.

Electric windows stop work occasionally (e.g. my grandad's '09 Citroen C3) = £££ for the dealer to repair.

A window smoothly going up/down (assuming the they actually work, see above) looks cooler vs manually winding the windows up and down.

You can try trapping someones hand in the window once and drive off (friend did this once ).

They drain the battery life thus limiting the range of electic cars by 1%, so people on here who do 500 miles a day and have no drive can spout tripe out about them and wind you up

errrrrrrrrr....

Yes, Stop making excuses for crap electric cars and how power can be saved to gain an extra 1/100th of a mile.

I don't really care either way. It is occasionally useful to be able to open and close the passenger window from the driver's seat, but the only switch for the passenger window is on the passenger door in my car, anyway.

I'd say electrically adjustable wing mirrors are more of a benefit than electric windows, though.

I have a 2001 car that has manual windows and a 2001 car that has electric windows. Only the car with the electric windows has had to have them repaired.

No complaints from me.. I am rather fond of the electrickery enriching the barge's baubled boudoir.

It's called refinement dear chap.. oh and evolution as the fingers are further focused on refined matters, not furously rotating a knob on a stick to move a piece of glass either downwards or upwards in circular and almost agricultural motion.
