I'm wondering if anyone can help. I have just bought a new car and I would like to put my number plate on it. My number plate is currently on a V778 retention document but I didn't have it with me when I purchased the car (it was at home). The man at the garage gave me the V5C (all signed up) and told me to post it off with my V778, MOT certificate and a copy of the tax disc so I wouldn't need to wait for the V5 to be in my name and then send it back again.

Has anyone done this before? I have tried to contact the DVLA and ask them but their 'number plate' line is not open today.

Thanks smile

you would probably be best doing it in person at a DVLA office, otherwise you may find it gets 'lost' in the post somewhere between the swansea post office and the DVLA....

I was thinking about this but none of them are local, I would have to take the day off work to go there.

Send off your V5C for the new one.
A couple of days later complete a V62 and send along with the V5C/2, V778, and MOT cert if applicable to your local office to do the transfer.
Any probe PM me.

This is the best solution.Probably worth taking a day off as it is hassle free and you get your tax disc re-issued there and then.
