Like a few people on here I run a car with company car allowance, however a new rule has just popped up that any change of car must be 160g/km off C02 or less, and an NCAP rating of 4 or 5.

This is back to back with the companies new procedure for their own cars, as I believe they can double the tax they write of on cars below <160 it is 20% and 10% >160 (or some other government initative to save the bunny rabbits).

I haven't asked them about cars without a CO2 rating i.e. those registered before March 2001 (i think that is the date).

What would peoples suggestions be, I am looking for-
4/5 Door
Estate or Saloon
Either petrol or diesel (As I tend to keep my cars a while I think petrol would be better as I have a fuel card and high cost diesel servicing after 120k miles could be costly i.e. turbos, injectors, DPF, dualmass flywheels etc)
Reasonably quick (slower than the current Honda Accord Type-R).
Reliable as the old Honda (175k without anything major ever going wrong)
Probably not a Skoda (Not me the wife, no comments about me choosing my own car please)

Over to you, I expect the normal BMW 320d and Merc250d suggestions.

Oh budget would be £15-20k s/hand and up to £25k new.

To make the most of the potential performance then a turbo or supercharger would make sense.

VAG supply the 1.2 supercharged turbo in various cars which can be later tuned well above its factory emission conscious map.

Being lazy, what sort of outputs are we talking here, what about longevity?

slight correction. the 1.2 is turbo and the 1.4 is supercharged and turbo.

1.4 TSi (140) – With its supercharger
and turbo, the 1.4 TSi engine provided
a greater challenge to achieve the
ultimate blend of performance and
drivability from the software. As with
all Revo Technik performance software,
the tuning has been focussed on
smoothness and driveability. The
supercharger responds instantly in the
bottom half of the rev range, and above
4000 rpm, its all turbo, it just keeps
going, pulling hard to red line. With its
close ratio 6 speed gear box the car
just flies, it feels very fast.
The 1.4 TSi is now running over 205
bhp with Revo Technik software, it’s a
massive gain. The car is flexible and
eager, with a responsive mid range and
a lot of power over 4,500 rpm, it really
shines in the top rev ranges and feels
very strong. Also, this 1.4 TSi (140) now
has as much torque as the stock
1.8TFSi !

Saloon 330d m sport manual is 152 CO2's

The touring 330d msport is 155 CO2's

So that's 155mph limited top speed 6.1 seconds to 62mph so read 6 dead to 60.
Also about 14.5 seconds to 100mph.
Also 49.5mpg average economy and that's is real world.
Extra urban will be high 50's - I know this as the 231 bhp version does low to. Mid 50's on a run and the new 330d is a good 5mpg better in every situation.

Cheers Welshbeef!

I will go and do some checking, are those stats only on the latest version or is a 2/3 yr old model going to be slightly dirtier (CO2 wise).

I think it's anything post "08" reg. Basically search for LCI 330d or the 245bhp 330d engine.

I think you are correct with post 08, a few 57 reg cars are 163g/km.

I will do a bit of a search, thanks again.

Just looking at BMW website for new 5 series.

The 8 speed auto is more economic than the manual and the exact same time to 62.

Anyway the following tdis are all under 160CO2's

535d gives 50.4mpg and 148co2
530d gives 51.4 mpg and 145co2
525d gives 56.5 mpg and 132co2
520d gives 57.6mpg and 129co2

Also the new
520d efficient dynamics is manual only gives 62.8mpg and 119co2

Therefore the entire 5 series diesel range!!!!
On the petrol side only 528 and 520 are within it.

Also very odd the 530i with 272bhp does 0-62in 6.5seconds yet the 530d with 258bhp does it in 6.3 seconds.... Me thinks the bhp in the 530d is understated or te 530i is overstated.
