Meet and drive your Heros AC cobra 427

Wife has been hinting that I may get a very nice birthday gift - a days hire of a AC cobra 427ci.

To me it's the beat car ever made an utter icon. Have seen a few in real life in concours condition looked better than any picture.

But has anyone here driven one? What are they like - is it a case of it's better not to meet your childhood (and still current) hero car??

Much of it depends on your expectations. If it's a genuine 427, then you'll be ensconced in a throbbing episode of nostalgic noise, smell and power.

If it's a replica, it really depends on the engine and setup. Some feel more like a modern sportscar, others feel more traditional. They can vary massively.

A good one of either can really set your heart on fire (quite literally sometimes - yesterday my wife burned her leg on the sidepipes ).

Don't expect it to be easy to drive fast like an R8 or Porsche - you really have to be ontop of it and in control to get the most enjoyment out of it. But for in-town pootling, you can just happily burble around on the sea of torque.
