I would rather keep the less stressed V8s for trucks and see them keep this engine for their cars or smaller truck & SUV lineup.

It will be a good thing for the US market. A lot of companies will realise the tuning capabilities of a forced induction 6; and at a relatively cheap cost. This will definitely appeal to a younger demographic.

Couple that with vastly improved engine economy and Ford have a winner on their hands.

I think Ford anticipated resistance, so they did some fairly extreme testing to reassure the V8 lobby:

Don't see the point in a truck, but sticking it in something more performance orientated instead of using a V8 might silence the "Herp derp V8s are old and therefore crap" crowd.

Yes, but I'm still not sure Hank is gonna be easily convinced.

True, but the V-8 option will surely stay available. Additional, it is not always Hank, there is a huge truck market for Henry as well for driving to civilized places.

ETA: Might be a single turbo and only a paltry 6.6 litres...
