New Model For Lamborghini At Frankfurt
But will it be Cabrera (the Gallardo replacement) or Sesto Elemento?
Is Lamborghini set to unveil a production version of the Sesto Elemento concept that so captivated showgoers (and the rest of the car-obsessed world) at the Paris motor show last September?
That is one of the rumours flying around the webnet after Lamborghini sent out an invitation to its Frankfurt show press conference, inviting hacks and other guests to “discover a new Lamborghini super sports car at the next Frankfurt Motor Show”.
Of course, ‘super sports car’ is how Lamborghini describes the Gallardo, so this might just be nothing more exciting than the first unveiling of its replacement – the Cabrera – which is due to appear in 2012. But that’s pretty exciting, anyway.
Yet there is also the intriguing possibility that Sant’Agata is going to use the Frankfurt show to take the wraps off a ‘productionised’ Sesto Elemento. Should that happen, the web whispers suggest that a run of between 10 and 20 units is likely for the 999kg, 562bhp supercar – with a price tag in excess of £1.6 million.
Either way, there should be something interesting on the Lamborghini stand at the IAA come September...

Using materials producing a much more attractive price point somewhere around the current Gallardo... then they can sell the Sesto Elemental as a very expensive special edition... and many special editions in between.
Sure, it'll be heavier, and not have the eye watering performance, but it'll still outperform the current Gallardo... and will look stunning.
Mere mortals can dream of owning the Cabrera one day after some hefty depreciation, the Sesto is just a pipe dream.
I cannot wait to see the Cabrera, it's just a massive shame that there won't be a manual version...
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the point of serialising these low-volume sports cars is so that the proprietary carbon fibre/plastic technology can be mass produced and will inevitably become cheaper over time. So when Europe is banning anything naughty in a few years it'll still adhere to co2 limits and be a lightweight car to boot, which is what everyone wants...
I think the research side of things and specialists creating more affordable CFRP-related products is pretty exciting.
1) It is unlikely to be the production Estoque as the press release describes a "super sports car". The Estoque is a saloon, and it would probably be described as an "ultimate GT" or similar.
2) It's called the Sesto Elemento, not the Sesto Elemental as some posts say (the article gets it right). It means Sixth Element, IE Carbon, the 6th element in the periodic table, appropriate as the car is made of carbon fibre.
3) Is the Aventador really that "bonkers"? The performance certainly is, but Lamborghinis have surely become a lot tamer in terms of appearance of late, and the sound isn't the same either. In France last week I saw a Gallardo Performante and a Murcielago Roadster, which were both great, of course - I think they are both great cars. However the car that was getting the most attention by far was a fantastic condition Diablo Roadster. I can't help thinking the best bet is to have something outstanding and useable for regular use, that is a 911 Turbo or possibly an R8. Then, for high days and holidays have something truly extreme, like say a Diablo. Things move on, but in some regards can they move on too far?

Must be about time, love the Gallardo, but the competition have moved on.
