Insurance for less than a year?

My car insurance is due for renewal at the end of the month, however, I don't want another years insurance as I had planned to have my DAS out of the way before my renewal and just be running the bike and not the car. I'm a bit behind schedule and only want car insurance for 2 mo0nths or so.

Is there a way of getting car insurance that's not on an annual contract?
I've also never had to end my car insurance contract prematurely, what are the normal penalties to pay if I took out a years insurance and attempted to cancel it after 2 months?

There are short term insurers that will do it a month or even a day at a time. It's quite a lot more expensive per unit time though. I've just insured a car that I'm exporting later this month with these guys:

Depends on the insurer, but you should be able to get a policy that will allow cancellation with no charges on a pro-rata basis. Make sure you check before you commit.

I had looked into using one of the short term insurers before and they wouldn't cover me as I had 6 points. Still have to disclose them so I doubt that would suit. Thanks anyway.

I'll do that, I'll ring my current insurer to discuss the renewal and ask them if they could do that for me.
