What to do, what to do....

WARNING - MOST UN-PH THREAD EVER!
Currently find myself with two cars and only really need one now. But which one?
2011 (11) Kia Picanto - bought with hassle free commuting in mind, great having a nice shiny new car and truth be told the £75 it costs me per month doesn't really hurt that much. It's very basic though and is obviously just losing money as any new car would. Not sure I like having to worry about where it's parked etc either (someone cracked my tail light when it was a few days old, had to replace that
) I can sell this for about £5000 to trade - paying the finance off and leaving me about £800 left over. Stupid lease has a mileage restriction on it so I'm limited in how I can use it and it's looking like I'll be leaving Uni and starting work next summer - possibly meaning relocation.
2002 (02) Nissan Almera - bangernomics FTW - bought to pour some work miles on because the Picanto has a mileage restriction on it's finance. It's falling apart but mechanically it works well and I've put nearly 5000 almost hassle free miles on it since June (there's a thread). I love not having to worry about it, it's bigger and more comfortable than the Kia and I can leave it anywhere. Cosmetic damage would just add to it's character and I'd only need to worry about mechanical repairs. Those mechanical repairs could end up costing me dearly though - no 7 year warranty here..... I think I can sell this for about £500.
So, PH, what would you do with the two most boring cars known to man? Selling both / setting fire to both isn't an option this time, I'm afraid.

1. Get rid of the Kia.
2. Keep the Nissan.
3. Learn a lesson about buying a new car you can't really afford on finance, being glad it hasn't cost you even more.

4. Fail to read the OP properly and make huge, incorrect assumptions about their finances.2. Keep the Nissan.

Anyway...
If you can't put more than a certain number of miles on the Kia and you're having to drive the Nissan because of it, you'd be better off keeping the Nissan. Sell the Picanto, and keep the £800 to stick bits back on the Nissan if/when it goes wrong.
^^ What Diesel Fury said. If it's White-Goods-On-Wheels you want instead of a PH machine, make it as cheap and bangernomics as possible. Older Japanese hatches are perfect for that.
In some ways, I still miss my £500 Corolla for those sorts of duties. It had the charisma of a washing machine and probably handled worse than one too. But it never ever let me down when I wanted to get things done and it cost peanuts to run.

Sounds like the Nissan is there because the Kia is not available to fulfill your transport needs because of the mileage limit. Thus getting rid of the Nissan leaves you still needing another car to fill the mileage gap. If you have to sell one then, the only sensible option is to sell the Kia.

Mostly correct - I wrongly assumed that the company I work for in the summer (and do a load of miles whilst doing so since it's 330 miles from home) were providing me with a hire car but due to a restructure and budget cuts they won't, so may face the same problem next year.BTW before anyone lynches me I want a proper PH machine so badly but insurance is a major sticking point for me at 20.

Easy fella - let's not turn this into a finance bashing thread - at no point did I say I can't afford it.
No bashing at all, hence the
Cars on finance just seem to only make much sense if you keep them forever. Bangernomics has always tempted me much more.
A house is about the only thing I'd buy on credit.

Hey Kiltox.
I was wondering if you sold the Kia. Question answered.
I know you can afford the Picanto and I do see your logic in buying the Nissan.
I know how you feel about the mileage rate , my dad has a leasse van that is agreed to 15,000 p/a and so far in 1.5 years he has covered 45,000 as the buisness took off better than expected!!
If it were me though I would be getting rid of the Kia & Nissan and you would have around £1300 to buy a car that fits all your needs and a bit more reliable than your Nissan.
Couple of Examples. (£1300 max)
2002 Honda Civic 1.7 VTEC Coupe.
Insurance dependant , and I think bieng a Honda the mileage shouldn't be a worry , providing there are proof of usual servicing/etc etc

Ford Focus 1.6 LX 5dr
Looks really smart!

Seat Leon 1.6 5dr.
If you don't buy this , I might as I really like the look of this as my first car.

I just think with the miles you cover , you would want something more reliable and comfy. Out of those I would pick the Focus. Hopefully I have given you another avenue to look down. Just do your normal second hand car checks (ie: bills , receipts etc etc) and you should be fine.
I used £1300 as it's £800/Kia & £500 (minimum) off the Nissan.
Enjoy.

Cheers LT - I appreciate a completely different view on the matter. Not looking to buy yet another car though, the Almera has plenty of life left in it yet and I'd rather just see it to it's grave than sell both and buy another uncertainty.
The difference between a £750 car and a £1300 one is very little, I've found. Bear in mind that my Almera would sell for closer to that £1300 if it wasn't a complete dog cosmetically.

It's a point that's already been made, if it's just a white-goods car keep it as cheap as possible
I'd say get rid of the Kia; it's not fulfilling your needs and it's just losing money.
Keep the Nissan. Give it (proper) oil & filter every 10,000 miles or whatever the service interval is. £50 max or obviously less if you can do it yourself
When/if something breaks that's important then if it's cheap fix it, if it's expensive then stick it on ebay and get another
