Just wondering what people think the impact will be of these video's appearing on Youtube, does anyone think it will make any difference, positive or negative to driving and cycling, not just interested in the cycling related ones, there have been a few recently but there have also been others like the woman that knocked the old chap over or the chimp that drove through the puddle drenching all the kids at the bus stop.

Its not just militant cyclists with cameras, there was the truck with the crash for cash, the car with some automatic system that showed a customer car being hammered, most smartphones can be used in a windscreen mount to record journeys so one way or another a lot more recording is being done. There seem to be Cop, fly on the wall documentaries every night as well.

Will anyone moderate their behaviour if they think they may be on camera ? I think there may be a significant social impact but not sure what it will be yet.

See my thread in the lounge smile

Even with the advent of in car footage, you are probably on a camera of one sort or another anyway for most of your journey in urban areas.

I think the effects of mass recording has already been felt. Before those cop crash traffic police shows came on TV, insurance companies were blissfully unaware of the idiocy and carnage caused by some of the utter plebs on their books. The fact everything is now recorded (some studies suggest there's more CCTV per person here than anywhere else in the world) means theres no hiding anything, as good as that can be in many ways it can be used by anybody with any agenda to cause hysteria.

In America now some insurance companies insist on your car being fitted with a front facing camera like the police have to determine without doubt the liable party in any accident. Which is useful as it can result in a swift conclusion to any case and a better result for the innocent party. It could be argued we dont need that so much here as so much of our road network ends up on camera somewhere anyway but i dont think its far away.

True reality television......actual reality.

Really, when was the last time anyone here managed to get video evidence when there Insurence company agreed to go 50/50 against his will? CCTV protects the person with the camera, nothing more.
