Rowan Atkinson Crashes McLaren F1

Comic actor and well-known car nut injured in supercar crash

Rowan Atkinson is in hospital after crashing his McLaren F1.

The accident happened yesterday evening on the A605 in Cambridgeshire. Atkinson is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, before spinning off the road and hitting a tree.

Although the car caught fire (though from the picture, posted by a PHer and picked up by both the Daily Mail and the Sun) it doesn't seem that serious), it is reported that the 56-year-old actor walked away from the scene and was looked after by another motorist.

He is thought to be suffering from a minor shoulder injury and is expected to be released from hospital later today.

There's no word on the state of the car, however, other than the fact that Cambridgeshire fire crews brought the fire 'under control' by 8.13pm.

We wish Mr Atkinson a speedy recovery - and just as importantly we hope the car's okay...

Ps - since we were having our tea when the news broke, there's already a thread running on the incident, which you can join in with here.

PH type people (Riggers, Pete, Garlick) with these threads where you put an article up with a link in it to an existing thread, would it not be better to merge the two? ie put the article at the top of the existing thread.

PH has done this before (the Henry Surtees thread), it would seem to be a good way to stop page 1 of the relevant forum from getting clogged up.

Feel free to put this post in website feedback in it's own thread if you don't want it in this one.

Poor lad. glad he's ok though. I love that he uses this car properly. Much better than it gathering dust in a climate controlled garage like a lot of F1s. The fact that he's crashed it a couple of times makes it even better... A proper enthusiast. Keep up the good work.

he has had that from new and was espousing it's virtues recently on Topgear..that car, beautiful as it is, has been responsible for a lot of carnage on the road over the years

To be fair, we all know that Rowan Atkinson can drive. Nearly every chav probably can't. Accidents can happen to anybody.

By using that particular "C" word, are you not yourself perpetuating this class distinction, that you seem so keen to rail against?

You're quite right. In fact I originally intended to do just that. Unfortunately I'm a bit of an idiot and I attached a new thread to this article without thinking. By the time I'd realised what I'd done, the thread was already going...

How many people genuinely use a 630bhp hyper car as a daily driver? You have to respect him for that...Th only thing I care about is we'll have to suffer another terrible movie now too recoup the loss
