Anyone got any experience with these?

Test drove one today and I was pretty impressed. Apart from the fact it costs more to insure than my old 190E!

What are the like to live with? I've only owned 1.4s and 1.9 TDs.

Go for it (says someone who has never even sat in a ZX). Was looking for one for a while but gave up in the end. Started looking for a Tipo 16V instead, which I also never got hold of.

ZX closely related to 306 and was rated fairly well in it's day. 16V looks good too. What's stopping you?

Wow I didn't know they were so rare. I might just snap this one up and park it behind the shed smile

Yep V rare, there's another owner on here with a few of them, I forget his name. Have a look on the "rare hatchback" thread he's showing them off on on there and very nice they look too.

benjfrst or something like that?

I have a ZX but it's a diesel estate one, resplendent with fked engine. It was fun to drive before that though (in spite of glacial acceleration). I'd love a 16V.

Owned an 94 L plater 16 valver for just over 5 years, a most excellent car! Added the 6 spd box from the Gti-6 and some GrpN rear beam bushes and uprated ARB. A great car with great steering and dynamics. Takes a bit of getting used too, because with the rear steer bushes they always feel like they are going to oversteer (and they do!) in fact i loved it, because it just never understeered, ever ;-)

Mine was mechanically robust, lots of bits of trim fell off, but i drove it pretty hard. wish i had kept it now........ ;-(

Didn't have the 6 speed of the 306 and also only had OEM dampers as opposed to the 306's Peugeot built and tuned versions which lead to a "livelier" rear end. Still a great car provided you kept it under control. And beter looking than the 306.

Magazines of the time rated it very highly:

Look at the cornering pics (page5) and see which one of the cars has what i would call a "modern" cornering stance. In fact, it suspect the 16v'er was a bit before it's time really, as it was described as "too clinical" by the testers !! ;-)

(little known fact, a good friend of mine wrote off that very ZX press car some time later, years before i ever saw that article and twigged the number plate)
