A couple of weeks ago i sold my car as a result of a broken gearbox. i now need a new one. my criteria is as followed:

  1. 1000 puonds or under
  2. Reliable
  3. No bigger then a 1.6 (insurance reasons)
  4. Fun to drive (Not essential but would be a bonus!)
  5. Ok to look at
Thanks for any recommendations

P.S MX5 isn't an option. cant get insurance for less then 2k frown (20years old 0 years NCB) although if someone can give me tips on how to reduce this quote im all ears!

A little over budget but you might be able to save by getting classic insurance.

I hear a slightly damaged McLaren F1 may be on the market soon...

Too soon?boxedin

Seriously, if you can't afford the insurance on an MX5 you need to avoid traditional hot hatches. Think Golf Driver instead of Golf GTi... and I'm sure you can think of the rivals yourself.

Really unusual suggestion.

2002 HYUNDAI Accent 1.5 MVi

I just thought that it is a bit different to a Ford Fiesta/Corsa/Leon of the same price.

I don't know what I'm doing yet, trying to make my mind up whilst I wait for the V5 for the Almera.

Peugeot 106 1.3/1.6 Rallye.

The 1.3 is the better car, if you ask me.

I picked up a fiesta zetec-s 1.6 for under a grand it still feels tight even with mega miles. Had one when it was new too. Great little cars and group 8 insurance.

Forget the 1.6 thing. It's near meaningless in insurance terms.
