Hi all, newbie here, would really appreciate some advice on my first buy

Basically I'm due to buy a car within the next few days from a used car dealer, so I decided to run a HPI check on the VRM...

The vehicle description (make, model etc) matched what I'm buying (VW passat, 08 reg). However, the HPI also said "VRM currently recorded as having outstanding finance" on a totally different car.

=========================

Outstanding finance:
Recorded against: VRM
Description: SKODA xxxxxx
Date: 09/03/2008
Finance house: xxxxxx
Finance house telephone: xxxxxx
Agreement reference: xxxxxxxx
Agreement type: Hire Purchase

=========================

Despite this, the thing I signed when I paid my deposit says "[used car dealer] accepts responsibility that the vehicle is not recorded stolen, not recorded as insurance total loss, and not on a finance agreement"

What should I do next?

Any advice would be most appreciated

Thanks.

Ask the dealer what they saw on their HPi when it came in the door?

Could be linked to a private plate... Get the dealer to call Hpi and get them to investigate, if it's ex fleet it could just be the wrong VRM from when on fleet plan

Thanks all for your input

I called the finance house listed on the HPi check. They checked their records and low behold, they'd recorded the wrong VRM of a skoda they have an interest in.

Picking up the car later this week hopefully

Cheers again!
