I am trying to find someone to look after my car for half the year and share the cost (see Classifieds: Porsche 996 with the word "share" in the heading).
Has anyone got experience of doing this? I would like to pick your brains!

Not the best of ideas. You'll always be wondering how the other person is driving it, what if they stack it etc, etc plus everything will be contentious, what happens if I sign up and next week the IMS goes. You're paying for that, right? What about in three months. Waddaya mean I've gone through 4mm of rear tyres in one weekend? No, that noise test sticker isn't from a trackday.

As said, nothing good can come of this

Great idea!!

So what your saying is I get a high performance car for free, get to rag it within an inch of its life and only pay half towards the running costs?

Mmmmmm. I know you guys are a bunch of cynics, but you really don't think much of this idea, do you? I've been having a friend run my car occasionally while I'm away. I used to spend thousands getting my Griff running properly every time I came back from abroad. The guys who used theirs daily never had those problems. I don't think a 911 will be any different. All I need is a "friend" who is prepared to actually pay for the privelege of regularly running the car.

Cynics because, one extra bill, a weekend where you can't use the car because of the other driver's actions even if those actions where simply not booking it in for a service earlier. Could sour it for both of you, you need a good agreement that lists exactly who is responsible for what and what happens in the event of damage, the agreement needing to end etc.

This would be difficult with friends, with strangers, I think damn near impossible - unless you are really, really, really lucky..........

But my word you'd need to think of everything in the contract between you...

Yeah, I was thinking a pretty clear and documented agreement would be needed to clear up those little (and big!) issues before they became a pain. Amazingly, there are off-the-shelf agreements for car-sharing and co-ownership you can buy as templates. So I figured quite a few people must have done this before. Or was that steam engines...............?

I was just going to sell her, but I would really miss being able to go to one of my favourite driving roads for a few days with something worth driving. I keep a shopping trolley for the rubbish stuff (shops obviously, motorways, etc.) so the Porsche really only gets used when I want a sense of occasion or I'm going to drive some roads that are properly worth all the investment! So what I'm really looking for is someone who wants to buy the car half price, but still allow me to use it for those "special" times. A sort of private, 2 man, car club.
