Lease economics vs. Bangernomics
Discussion
Just running through a few numbers - am on the cusp of ordering a five door Citroen C3 - for £165/month
This is sort of replacing my Jeep Cherokee that i got a couple of years ago in the spirit of reasonably interesting bangernomics -
comparisons:

So the new car is a citroen - flat paint etc. but £165/month plus the lack of tax/MOT requirment etc make this very, very cheap motoring...
I used to have to keep a bottle of water in the Jeep to top up the slow leak on long journeys - Oh, and it used to steam up the window when it rained as the heater matrix was fooked...
OK, i know that real Bangernomics would have been a old Skoda 1.9SDi run into the ground - but i'd be interested to know of any views on my stats above -
I was unlucky with the Jeep on two fronts - needed a couple of repairs over my ownership tenure, and I was very honest with it's faults when i punted it off on Ebay - but overall - the small new french thing should save me money...
A mate at work has just got one to do his daily commute in (400miles a week) - saves the cost of the lease on fuel alone.

Assume that's the 1.4 VTR+ Petrol C3, it's got a nice spec for the money. Makes sense but then I'm biased.
'tis a diesel - but yes - a 1.4 VTR+Jeep was diesel too - perish to think what the 4.0 petrol would have been - i suspect basically double the above fuel costs!
Service costs for the banger at £400? thats a bit steep. When I ran a £300 316i over 30,000 miles the only service item was one oil change and a filter so £50 max. Also depreciation on a banger? they should have done all their depreciation to become said banger, you are buying it at the end of its life in the hope you can get a few thousand miles out of it before it goes to the scrapy.

To be fair the service/repairs were about £1200 in total - I can't recall quite how the split was but we had a new radiator, had a new clock spring for the airbag & horn, someone had welded the sump plug in (F*ck knows why) - so yes - it was a little lumpier than it could have been - but the prospect of gearbox seals etc as the next stage of repairs were enough to put me off keeping it.I bought it for 1500 quid and sold it for 750 - as i described the faults on ebay in detail.
Still had a cheeky fecker try to chip me on the price having spend over an hour of my evening checking it over on pick up - Private sales - right pain in the Ass...
