As the title really, if i have my windscreen repaired, is it a claim on my insurance policy? I know it won`t effect my "no claims" bonus, but when it comes to renewal time is it declarable? Obviously if the answer is yes then surly it would increase the premium and make the repair more expensive? Anyone had any experience or know the procedure with this?
Thanks

I've never declared them - I had 3 in one year once (one lasted not half a day!) and was told it was not a problem when I asked.

Any windscreen repair or replacement won't affect your no claims bonus, nor will you ever have to declare it to another insurer as a claim, but it will be logged in your file with your insurer.

Based on this it could well affect your renewal premium should your insurer wish to try and recoup some of their costs wink

And that's ignoring the fact that certain big chains such as the one mentioned don't actually do a very good job much of the time, if you listen to the anecdotal evidence.

My insurer specify Autoglass too, but if I ever have a windscreen claim, I will definitely see about getting an independent to repair it instead.

there is an option to declare a windscreen replacement so it should be declared, I did this and it has made no difference to my premium as I got quotes with and without the claim.

With some insurers, if you make a claim for a windscreen then you won't gain no claims for that year. I can't remember who it was, I remember spotting it in the T&C's and didn't go with them for that reason.

I had the windscreen on my SL500 replaced by Autoglass (in my own garage) and the fitter could not have done a better, more careful job. He really was very good.

Have to say I've had numerous windscreens done by Autoglass (4 on the girlfriend's old Mini, 2 on the old man's G55, and 2 FF Range Rover screens) and they've always been careful and done a good job.

The only problem we had was the last G55 screen had a very unusual failure which could possibly have been caused by improper installation, but it lasted 5 years and it just as easily could have been a manufacturing defect or an impact during transit.

Five years... after installation?

Thinking about it, it was probably only 3 years after installation as although the car was new the first time it was changed, it wasn't brand new.

It was very odd, the screen split vertically across the middle with no damage and no hard points behind the screen that could have caused it. It split to the point where you could actually see that one half of the screen was at a noticeably different angle to the other, it split the reflection quite significantly.
