I picked up a 2005 E-Class on Friday, from a non-Merc dealer . All seemed well until I turned on the headlights the next day only to get a malfunction warning appear on the dash.
I took the car to my local MB dealer today and it seems that the Xenon bulb is fine, so it's either the controller unit or the whole things needs changing.

The original dealer has asked to have the car back tomorrow to take a look.
Lots of hassle ahead, it seems, as the garage is 15 miles away from my office, which is a further 10 miles from home, and they don't do loan cars... Great!
Oh, and just to top it off, we're driving to France on Saturday.

Any hints / tips / thoughts?

Talk about jumping the gun! Give the dealer a chance to fix it maybe? Not every used car bought will be mechanically and electrically correct.

ETA - I do think they should offer you use of a car though.

No jumping of guns here.
Just pointing out that I've now got a load of hassle to get around the place, dropping the car to them, getting back to my office, then home, etc, for as long as it takes them to sort it, which is tricky as I've just flogged my previous car.

Obviously I hope they do sort it with no resistance, and pretty quickly, because as I mentioned, we're driving to France in it in a few days.

Sorry, no help biggrin - seriously, good luck getting it sorted. A bummer, this kinda thing.

beat me to it!
Just one of those unfortunate bad timing events. If that's the worst that happens in life you will be very lucky.

Just to put things straight, the supplying (non-MB) dealer has no obligation to provide you with a car, or help you with your transport woes to/from their premises. They also have no obligation to ensure you have a car for your holiday.

However, we'd all just hope that common sense and customer service prevails and they offer go correct the fault for you quickly. Given that most parts for 2005 e classes will be in stock somewhere in the uk, and at worst a 2 day lead time from stuttgart it should be back to rights quickly for you smile
