Hi all

Just a quick question, my SiL has one of those god-awful Pug 5008 people-carrier/ "i've got one brat so need a mahoosive car" thingy. Anyway, sadly something has hit the panoramic sunroof (big piece of glass that goes the length of the car) and has caused a large-ish crack from the front middle of the screen, where it meets the windscreen rubber.

So, would an insurance company cover this under normal windscreen cover? Or will it be an accidental damage claim?

sunroofs are covered under 'glass cover' but as the panoramic panel makes up the actual bodywork I guess they may make it accidental damage cover. Also, I'm guessing here though, that AutoGlass don't have that in stock and probably don't have the ability to replace it.

It will vary from insurer to insurer... you need to phone yours and check with them.

Some insurers won't even cover your windscreen where a panoramic roof is fitted, others just exclude 'structural glass' from their cover (are they saying windscreens aren't structural??? - they make up 30% of a cars rigidity!)

I've never heard of the glass roofs being covered by the glass policy though, so it will be a normal accidental damage claim I'd imagine.

Cheers for the answers folks. She has recently claimed on the accidental damage policy, when some muppet reversed into it and then left the scene. frown So I doubt she wishes to make another claim!

So, anyone care to comment on just how much the dealer would rip them off for in order to replace the roof? It's a 60 plate car, if that helps... Are we talking thousands or hundreds?

For once, Mrs Eltax is glad of my PH mantra of buying cheap cars we don't care about as daily hacks, I'm in the good books on the car front for once! hehe

A friend had one done on a Qashquai - £650+VAT IIRC...

It won't be cheap though whatever!
