Trading up to an older car!
Discussion
Am I the only one that does this? As this is PH then I would assume not. However when my family change cars and even my friends who like cars change their cars, they always get a newer car but then they keep their cars for longer than me. I think that they think I'm mad for swapping into an older car which I have done several times. Of course, I've bought newer cars mainly for financial reasons (cheaper insurance, better fuel economy, the promise of better reliability) but thinking about it have always preferred the car that I owned previously and not regretted changing my newer car for an older car. Here are the cars that I have owned and in brackets how it compared to the previous car.
M-reg Vauxhall Astra 1.4
H-reg Peugeot 205 1.6 GTi (faster, better handling, more fun)
03-plate Mazda MX-5 (less practical, less economical, not as fun as 205!)
H-reg BMW 325i Convertible (faster, more practical, gorgeous straight six engine)
L-reg Volkswagen Corrado VR6 (unreliable)
W-reg Volkswagen Golf 2.0 GTi (slower, less economical, even more unreliable)
08-plate Volkswagen Polo 1.4 TDI (less comfortable, less practical, boring to look at)
04-plate Subaru Impreza WRX Estate (faster, more practical, awesome!)
As you can see, every time I've preferred the older car. The Corrado was a lovely car but a bit knackered. I had to spend about £3000 on it to get it together, whereas the BMW was immaculate and 100% reliable.
So PH, am I alone in this habit of replacing my newer car with an older car and preferring it or am I just weird? I wonder what I'll get next!
