Mine was 1963. My Mini was stolen and used for a post office robbery, then they dumped it in the sea off the commercial docks in Portsmouth. It was high tide it seems and a commercial freighter tied up before the tide went out. You can imagine the result. The car was found by the police five weeks later, all of two feet tall and covered in barnacles.

Over to you for some better stories!

Friend of a friend took a humpback bridge at 60 mph a couple of months after he passed his test (with 14 minors). On landing he burst all four tyres, broke an axle, and dropped the engine out of the bottom of the car!

Skip to about 20 seconds in if you want to see the faster speed bump casualties and the Lamborghini.

A friend when working as an apprentice in a Vauxhall Garage wrote off a new Senator by reversing it off a 4 post lift with the door open.

The customer had taken delivery the day before and brought it back for something to be checked underneath. My mate left the garage soon after funnily enough.

A mate of mine had a main dealership. I walked in the workshop one day and he said look at that car and tell me what's wrong with it. I looked for a while couldn't see anything. He said its a write off and showed me a barely visible crease in the roof. Apparrently the owner had exited a motorway and rather than follow the sweeping exit had gon straight on over the curb and onto the grass run off. Result knackered car with barely any visual damage.

A colleague of mine once wrote a car off by dropping a toilet on it.

He had been redecorating and had left an old toilet on the first floor deck just above the car. While moving some timbers about he knocked the toilet and sent it cleanly through the sunroof of his knackered old Mondeo.

Men always say yet after saying they've never written a car off.

I read this week that the team-mates of Manchester city striker Balotelli (not sue on spelling) filled the boot of his £150k Maser with fish the day before the club went for their two week summer tour of the US. The car sat in the very hot sun we had here for two weeks and is apparently a write-off!

Back in the early 60s my dad had a modded Studebaker Lark V8, at the time V8s were quite a rare thing in Oz so it was quite a fast car for the time. Dad used to take it up to the Bathurst car races and if they needed a spare part during the race thet could just take it off dads car. Unfortunately it was stolen by a criminal gang who used it for a few bank robberies and even fired shots from it, they kept it hidden for some 9 months and Dad had some problems getting the insurance monies. Eventually they set fire to it in a suburban street, we still have the newspaper clipping, headlined, "Hot Car Burns".

I take it you saw my garage wink I haven't worked with the bloke for years (moved section) but it always was an amusing story to go with the rolled Novas and fender bender Orions that the other guys at work can regale. My own Mondeo was written off when I drove it (unintentionally) into a tree.
