Least PH What Car!!
Discussion
The girlfriend is looking for her first car (got her test end of Aug) and requested my help to find it. She has around £2k give or take depending on savings...maybe up to £3k at a stretch.
As a first car it needs to be cheap to insure, run, tax and have good reliabilty, also 5drs.
Straight away I have mentioned the below as options to choose from:
Fiesta Mk 6
Corsa Mk 4
Micra Mk 3
C1 / 107 / Aygo
Anything anyone else can mention that I have missed that is worth a look at?

I can certainly recommend a Corsa C 1.2 16V. It's a great little car in which I have never had any problems with. Great on fuel consumption as expected and insurance on this (being my first car) was a great deal cheaper than other makes and models alike. You can pick up one in good condition and low millage now for 2k and it would be money well spent.
I hope this helps.

Just a thought, but there are quite a few lease deals around offering basic but brand new Micras and Peugeot 107 type vehicles for £99 a month. Over three years that would giver her a brand new vehicle for little more than she's looking to spend on used. Worth thinking about if reliability is key.

I'll mention that to her. She is a bit funny about getting things on credit, she would rather save the money and spend it that way. I'll keep an eye out though.

Reliable: Either keep-it-simple (minimal electrics, petrol engine) or make it Japanese (Toyota/Honda preferably). Ideally both.
Cheap to run & insure: Small car with sensible engine.
Quick question - why 5-doors - you're limiting your options there - how often are there going to be people in the back, and are they small kids, large kids or adults - will affect the suggestions here.
Fabia is a good suggestion, albeit the VAG petrol engines aren't the most faultless around...keep a spare coil pack in the boot, eh!
Aygo/107 a good shout also - these get fantastic fuel economy. Not sure if they'll be cheap enough yet.
Slightly bigger, the Civic and Corolla are both bland-but-otherwise-perfect for the criteria.
