Hi,

Just need a minor disagreement sorting.

Wife's car was parked with nobody in it when a lorry took the wing mirror off. Details were exchanged and she got a repair quote of £380 and lorry drivers insurance company accept liability.

Now I'm saying that even if their insurance pay all the costs involved, her next insurance premium will rise because of this claim. She is also a named driver on my insurance so mine may also increase.

She says this is stupid as she was not at fault and has not claimed on her own insurance. I agreed with her that it is stupid, but the insurers look at it from the point of view that she parks where lorries hit wing mirrors etc. etc.

So am I correct in saying that her premium will rise?

Will mine also rise?

I can get a second hand mirror for £50 and do it myself which may be cheaper than the extra insurance.

Thanks in advance for your verdict even if I am wrong.

Yes, you are correct. There's also another thread running on this. All of the insurance wallers will post that it makes no difference but when it comes to renewal time if you get your quote without mentioning this and then say 'oh, I forgot...' you will get a higher premium. The parking in a place where it's likely to get hit is a good point but you could park in the safest place in the country and still suffer a claim. It's just annoying.

Non fault accidents can have an affect on insurance premiums, regardless of whether a claim is made.

Rubbish - I had a non-fault claim on my old Chimaera when my neighbour reversed into it a few years back and it made zero difference to quotes (done with & without for comparison). Likewise someone went into the back of my wifes old MGTF 2 years ago and again zero difference in premium.
Whilst some companies may load your insurance not all will do so.
