Used cars not shifting at the moment?
Discussion
Hello,
So, what's the used car market like at the moment? I have my car advertised, it's the cheapest car of it's mileage on Autotrader, eBay and PH and still very little interest. It's also got loads of options fitted, which is rare on these as they're usually ex fleet cars that had no additional spec on them.
Is it slow at the moment all round or are certain cars moving and others not? I'm trying to sell a 56 plate diesel estate car, so it should have had a bit of interest I'd have thought.
Also, how do you find Autotrader for leads? It's really expensive compared to PH and eBay classifieds, but it would obviously be worth it if it's likely to generate a lot more interest.
Thanks,
Dan

I sold my 1 series, which was realistically priced, within a week on Autotrader not a sausage through Pistonheads I'm afraid. We have tried to sell our 330d as well, which just won't shift at present. I think its not too bad on the money as it is in great nick but not much interest at all. I think perhaps people are looking at eco boxes at the momment.
Just sold my car after the add had ran out on AT, was a v.high spec and nothing for a month and then two viewings on one day who both made offers on the car. Had to reduce the price £1000 in the end. Still look at the Z4's that have been for sale for months and they havent reduced prices. Autotrader is expensive aroun £50 but has a large exposure, more people are using Gumtree and eBay as cheaper alternatives so try there.
I brought a cheap 330ci as a stop gap, managed to get just over 20% off the asking price, it had been up for over a month and I was the first person to view, would of knocked more off but couldnt fault the car, was a really mint example, buy on condition and not mileage and all that.
Really is a buyers market at the moment, so price that in, you may have to sell yours cheaper but then your potential new car will be cheaper

The potential new car is a house! I'm trying my best to get it cheaper!I brought a cheap 330ci as a stop gap, managed to get just over 20% off the asking price, it had been up for over a month and I was the first person to view, would of knocked more off but couldnt fault the car, was a really mint example, buy on condition and not mileage and all that.

Interesting News. On the forecourt, we are shifting used cars like no tomorrow. Hard to get hold of what most people want. However, the cars selling are £30 RFL vehicles, or silly high MPG. There doesnt seem to be much interest in the larger vehicles at the moment, all supermini's and smaller hatchs.

Then you'd be better of waiting to buy a house too. Massive price reductions underway and more to come. Wouldn't touch property with a barge pole for the next 18 months at least. Mind you, London's a different story I guess.
We're still selling over 100 cars a month but it's a struggle to get good stock. Like has been said, low tax high MPG diesel cars are what people seem to want or very cheap >£2000 1.0i-1.4i first cars.
82% of all searches on autotrader are for diesel cars so your appealing to the right market. I've not seen your advert maybe that could do with tweaking.
Serviceable items are often a concern for buyers so list the depths of all 5 tyres if you have a spare that is and the exact date and mileages of the services. Also when brakes, belts etc were last replaced. List all the good and bad points of car so it's clearly described. If you've priced the car to be the lowest for what it is the phone should ring. Even still people will try and haggle you down.
Failing all that sell it to WBAC if you can be arsed.

Have been on the look out for a 350Z for a month or so now. Prices are falling to ridiculous levels for what is afterall a near 300bhp rear drive coupe. Started off struggling to locate any cars (even Imports & automatics) below £7000, now there must at least be a dozen on Autotrader at £5995 (even a 119,000 mile 04 plate in black at £5000 !!) & they still arent selling.
Great for me as a prospective buyer as hope to get a Roadster instead as winter approaches, but must be a killer for sellers trying to offload difficult to Insure (not to mention fuel)cars such as this.

Same, my friend bought a 350Z GT a few months back and ever since i've had the urge for one.Great for me as a prospective buyer as hope to get a Roadster instead as winter approaches, but must be a killer for sellers trying to offload difficult to Insure (not to mention fuel)cars such as this.
I think the 350z seems to have been forgotten about on the market, coupled with the fact its a big engined car anyway so by December they will be a seriously good used buy.
I sold my Mk4 Golf GT TDi about a month ago but it had been advertised for about 2-3 months before that. I only had 3 enquiries in that whole time. I had an advert in the classifieds and a classified ad on Ebay but it sold via here. I didn't advertise it on Autotrader as I though the listing prices were quite expensive compared to Ebay.
Although I did buy my new car from an ad I saw on Autotrader.
