Gotta vent.

Renewal premium £1210 - multicar policy. £785/£425
Individually quoted: £568/£318 via price comparision site - both quotes with the same company: the one i'm already with.

Call them up, happy to match their own quotes - obviously!

Final price £847. 30% saving for 45mins on internet/phone.

So frustrating!!!! I genuinely don't get how they think they have the right to just pull figures out of the air and expect us to pay them.

I understand his frustration. They don't run the business very well, its not straight forward and it should be.

Come my renewal time, I am expecting to hear:

"Yes, but all of the Riots over the Summer means that premiums have increased"

Last year it was:

"Yes, but all of the heavy snow over winter means that premiums have increased"

Here's a simple fact about many businesses that you would do well to remember, especially if you spend lots of money on cars.

"Businesses often charge what they believe the customer will pay".

Just remember that every time you get an insurance renewal, every time you take your car to a garage, or any time you order any parts. Also remember that when you buy big-ticket home appliances - ask for a discount, and most of the time (in my experience), you'll get one.

These simple facts shouldn't make you angry, they should focus you on saving your own money. Remember them.

Don't blame the insurance companies.
The fact is, you are getting subsidised insurance because of all the lazy people who don't bother to shop around and just pay the renewal premium.

Insurance company margins aren't any more spectacular than other businesses - it is pretty competitive as far as I can see.

Just remember to shop around and accept it as part of the cost of running a car. Like driving the car to a service or shopping around for cheaper tyres rather than taking the ones a stealer would offer.

Just had mine through, gone up by £40 ish to £553, which I was very happy with (Flux) thought I'd better phone around, tried A Plan first and they got it down to £380 or something. (Modified Eunos with 1 yr no claims)
When I compared policies it was with same insurance company and with cheaper excess... still waiting to find the catch hehe
