It's for the parents so it needs to be cheap to run and have an air of quality to it. They'll probably run it for a long time as both are on their pensions now so servicing costs come into it. They tend to like an estate as nothing pleases older people than a good run to the tip it seems!

Perhaps something *urban* might work for them too.

Any suggestions welcome biggrin

If it doesn't have to be brand new, then a Legacy should suit. An Outback if they want "funky".

My old man has just picked up an ex-demo Skoda Yeti for about £16,000 or so...

The waiting list for a new one is about 9 months though.

I'd say it's something of an oxymoron to spend 24k on a car but stipulate that it must be cheap to run. Whatever they buy, the majority of the running costs will probably be depreciation, even if they keep the car for a while.

Skoda Octavia Scout 4x4 2.0TDi DSG - ideal OAP estate I'd say!

I don't want them bloody SKIing in a car hehe

Not too fussed about depreciation but I forgot to stipulate it must be new.

Just an idea, I don't know too much about it.

Yeti, Octavia or Superb, depending on how big they need/want.

Always thought the Exeo looks great, seems to have a good list of engines with a rather nice options list, used their car config to spec one with most of the decent upgrades, with the 211ps tfsi engine to 29k.

I don't think it'd be bad if specified like this:

http://carconfigurator.seat.com/seat-cc/main-seat-...

This could be altered to suit and with a little haggle, I think a good estate car could be had for 24k there.

I've looked into the Exeo myself. Based on the previous generation A4.

A real bargain estate car there IMO.
