SWMBO is having some trouble with the alarm on her 1997 Mazda 323f, its a Cobra 7910 and she took the fob for a new battery.

Anticipating a potential problem she sensibly locked the car with the key rather than fob before she had the battery removed in case it lost the code and was unable to deactivate it.

The fob appears to have lost the code as the alarm will now not activate. Google reckons holding the 2 fob buttons down until a light on it comes on then goes off when it gets the code from the car, but so far has had no luck.

Does anyone know the correct procedure or advise?

This suggests there is another step:

You need to sync again your remote. This is done by following these instructions:
  • Place yourself close to the car.
  • Press both buttons on the remote at the same time till the LED goes out. As soon as you release them, LED will light stationary.
  • Press button 1 for a second. LED will flash.
  • Enjoy your new functioning remote.

Those are the instructions she's been following, but when she holds the 2 buttons down the LED doesn't go out, even after 2-3 mins holding them.

Its also caused 3 other car alarms to go off on the same street during this process!

ETA - For closure on this topic for future reference we removed the battery from the fob and refitted it and it worked first time!
