Trying to decide between these to go on a 330bhp Type R Impreza - 215/40/17

Fair weather B-Road blats mainly

Feedback (where it is) seems good on the RS-R. They're a little cheaper than the Yoko's, but still a relatively new one on the scene

Any feedback appreciated, cheers

hi i have got the advans ad08 on the front of my dc2 integra. They are ok in the wet not quite as good as the toyo t1r's i used to have but in the dry they are in a different league. The only drawback is they do wear quite quick

Nice car the DC2 - had a 5 a while back, so light and nimble...

I have T1R's on the car at the mo but don't like the soft sidewalls and squishy tread blocks. Not too bothered about wet handling. So would you say sidewalls are stronger than the Toyo's?

The Federal Tyres are budgets aren't they?
I don't have any experience with the Advans, but the Federal Tyres can be good but seem to wear quite quickly. If I were you, I would stay with the Toyos, they are quite a good tyre compound and can be found quite cheap through a quick search on ebay > http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...
Going for less than £150.

Toyo T1Rs are a good budget tyre, the AD08 is a good performance tyre. I went from T1Rs to AD08s on my Civic and the difference was night and day, I would say they were better under all conditions than the Toyos, but in the dry they were phenomenal. I upped the camber to 2.5° at the same time and the grip felt almost identical to what I had on R888s.

Much stiffer sidewall, wear rate appears to be good, far better than R compound tyres, probably only marginally worse than T1Rs, hold up much better on track too.

They are a bit pricey, but worth it IMO.

Would never have even looked at federals before but heard some good reviews on the RS-R from some regular trackdayers so thought I'd give it a go.

Before them I had the hankooks RS-2s which I liked, good in the dry, great on track but rubbish in the wet, at least that's what I found.

Done a couple of trackdays with the federals and I absolutely love them. They ate sensitive to tyre pressure but they're in a different league compared to the hankooks let alone a normal but good road tyre. Tyre wear looks like it'll be similar to tyres like the R888s if not slightly better but that shouldn't come as a surprise.

Had to be said I've never tried the ad08s or 888s so can't give any accurate comparitive info.

The Federals aren't really a "budget" tyre. Some mx5 guys are running then and give very very good reviews.

This is the kind of feedback which is leaning me towards the AD08 biggrin

Seems alot of road users as well as trackdayer's are liking the RS-R's. I guess it's just a biggish leap of faith to go with a newish tyre getting initial hype...

Haven't seen a poor word said about them tbf

There's a world of difference between cheap tyres and budget tyres - Falken 452s being the obvious example.

Supply on the Federals is a little short at the moment, they can be tricky to get hold of in some sizes. Not driven on them myself, but as has been mentioned, a lot of MX5 guys love them.
AD08's are a great tyre, loads of grip and seem to wear a lot better than the R888.

Having gone through a set of AD07 on my MR2 I'd go for the AD08.

Went from RE040 to AD07 (both Lotus OEM spec) on my Elise - AD07s took longer than I expected to settle and felt a bit odd for a while, but are now better than the Bridgestones were. AD08 said to be similar, so presumably also good. An impreza is a much heavier car, though.

Well, I think I'm going to go with the Yoko's as they seem the more solid proven record. £139 fitted

Only other consideration (just to throw a last minute spanner in the works) was the Michelen Pilot Sport Cups. Asymmetric tyre, and pricey too...

To put a spanner in the works, I would look at some Kumho Ku36 tyres. I've just fitted a set to my evo as they were a chunk cheaper than 08s. They're a similar concept - mainly dry weather tyre but do work in the wet.

I'm very impressed - Grip is very very good and they have a lovely progressive breakaway.

Since having Michelin Pilot Sports I don't think I'll ever buy a budget tyre again. Try a set out if you can afford some. I don't personally know what works well on the Impreza
