What's a Tesla top speed? 137 for the current record does not seem that quick? 2000 though I suppose.

He's trying for 150mph, which shows you how far electric cars have yet to go. theres a lot of petrol saloons limited to 155 these days.

They failed in their attempt this weekend unfortunately. Looks like Joe Wales had a lucky escape as he hit a pothole at speed.

Did anyone go today? I spent a few hours there yesterday and saw the car run once.

He also ended up sat in the sea in an electric car which must have been quite scary.

As a supporter of electric cars/drives it pains me to agree, but you're right. On fag-packet calculations it would require >5000kW to do 500mph. That's equivalent to 4+ motors from a TGV locomotive. These are quite large and require 25kV to run. To get that from the lead acid batteries they are using, they'd need 2000 in series which would make the whole vehicle weigh about as much as a loaded aircraft carrier (slight exaggeration wink).

Is using a linear motor cheating do you think? biggrin
