Excuse me, what the fk are you doing?

Why do I seem to stand around waiting for the fuel pump to be authorised in Tesco's?

Shirely, it doesn't stop fuel being nicked, because once it's authorised, I could just fill up and drive away anyway?

The delay encourages people to pay at the pump next time. Reducing the numbers of people the poor cashiers behind the counters have to deal with moaning about the price of petrol and how it costs the same per Litre now as it used to cost to fill your Morris Minor up back in the day.

Because there guidelines are that an operator must ensure the person operating the pump is old enough, not filling pop bottles or other non suitable containers etc. ?

The delay also gives the Tax man chance to cover his fist in either KY or grit depending on what car you drive.

If there is "gudielines" then why do BP, Shell, Morrison's etc not have the same system in place then?

This - and I imagine it gives them a good chance to get you on CCTV when you stare towards the camera wondering WTF the operator is doing

ALL petrol stations have the same authorisation procedure - your local Tesco may be staffed by idiots...

I just use "pay at pump" so no problem apart from yesterday when "pay at kiosk" was only option available and that made me grumpy

Problem for me is people doing their weekly shop while their car is at the pump with a queue behind it

Alright, calm down. Never noticed a problem.

I wonder this, so I always constantly press it.

Well i have the same problem as OP, so unless Norfolk is now close to Scotland, it isn't just OP's local.

You would reset the activation signal and wait longer, I would imagine. The system would go through it's nozzle up/nozzle down procedure for no fuel dispensed every time you do it.

Nozzle up notifications don't clear, the attendant gets a "Press the bloody button you mong" beep every few seconds until they authorise the pump. Or not.

yes I must say I'm quite confused as to the amount of people who queue up in the shop when a system is in place to make things a lot faster.

I would love to be able to pay at pump, but for some reason none of them seem to like my card. So I have to queue behind granny dryden who's doing her weekly shop having parked at the pump.

My mum works in a bank and said that there was a stage when the pay at pumps caused a lot of card cloning etc, hence she never uses that option. I do use it sometimes, but I guess some of that caution has passed onto me too.

All of my local stations seem to have removed pay at pump. I assume there was loads of fraud or something.

Can you swipe a loyalty card (eg, Shell bonus card) when you're using the pay at pump system?
